Robert Dunbar (1847-1920)

Robert Dunbar, Alias Robert Danvers was born in Tyrrell County North Carolina. He enlisted in the military on the 22 of May 1863 as a private infantryman in New Bern NC. His duties were with Company B, 35th Regiment, United States Colored Troops (Ref: Military Records). The unit was commanded by James Beecher, the half-brother to Harriet Beecher, who wrote the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin". He was honorably discharged at Charleston South Carolina on 1 June 1866. He is also honored with a plaque (# B-50) on the United States Colored Troops (USCT) memorial in Washingtn DC. He was deemed more than two thirds disable from injuries suffered in the line of duty.
